It seems like everyone is jumping on the social media platform these days. Bloggers and pundits alike are expounding on the future of business and how social media must be integrated into your business model, including your website, or you will be considered a dinosaur within 5 years.
I agree wholeheartedly. Your business model must include at a minimum:
1.] A Creative and thoughtfully designed Facebook Fan Page where you can market to over 650 million registered users (the equivalent of the third largest country in the world). Of those registered users, over 50% log in each day and spend approximately 10% of their day hanging out in various Facebook places.
2.] A Linked-In business profile that clearly defines your brand…”who you are and what you do”. You need to take the time to complete your profile, as this is a snippet of your online resume. This is one area where like-minded professionals often do their initial research on an individual, a company, or a brand.
3.] Twitter…ah yes, the “Charlie Sheen” factor. Twitter is an integral part of our fast-paced lifestyles. There is so much information that you can glean from the “Tweetosphere”. Your profile needs to be interesting, but yet concise…just like Twitter itself. You need to be “Tweeting” consistently throughout the day. This is a great way to let others know who you are and what you are doing. Are you getting it yet? Our business world has crossed over into our personal world and vice versa.
4.] Youtube…I call it the “Tuber Syndrome”. We all have it, whether we are making videos or watching others. We are all visual people and enjoy “Tubing”. Having a well-crafted site will attract more visitors where you can “Get Tubing”, review, comment, and friend other like-minded individuals.
These four critical elements must be integrated into your business platform. I highly recommend that you connect these entities together using social media icons, hyperlinks, and direct connections, as this will not only aid in search ranking for your website but to promote your brand in general.
Are these four elements the most important aspects of your social media strategy? No, the most important factor in planning your social media strategy is YOU. It is the “H” factor…the human factor. So often we get so caught up in technology, speed, efficiency, productivity, etc… that we forget about the human factor. As humans, we need direct communication. We need love and affection. We have a need to be “real”.
Keep this in mind while you are developing your social media strategy. Keep that “H” factor as a prominent focus when you are integrating the other four. You do this and you will become empowered and unstoppable.
