What is health? To some it means not being ill...some say it's being able to do what they want to do. Some equate health with energy, and some say it is living a long life. To me, health is not just the absence of disease or living a long life, but rather it is living a long life full of energy and positive vitality.
How do we derive energy or vitality from within us? We learned in school about cells and that mitochondria within our cells are the power source that give us that energy. Our body is made up of about 100 trillion cells which need to be treated with care in order for us to always have that energy supply. We should treat our body as 100 trillion cells and not just as flesh, blood, and bones. We can choose to grow to 70 but feel and look like 50; or we can choose to grow to 50 but feel and look like 70...
There is no such thing as "aging"...there is only cellular degeneration. Either our cells are damaged or they die prematurely because of our ignorance, self-indulgent lifestyle, or careless eating habits...or worse, all of the above.
What we ingest into our bodies, causes our cells to die. It could be the air that we breathe, the water we drink, or the food we eat that damages and kills our cells. Even prolonged emotional stress can cause havoc in our body.
Our reckless lifestyle causes our cells to die due to toxins, acidic environment, and oxidation. If only we know how to feed our cells correctly, we can prolong the lifespan of our cells to keep our body looking and feeling young.
Most diseases start from inflammation. This can be evidenced by something as simple as a discharge, due to low immunity that you would typically ignore...(such as the common cold). This is considered the "Acute Phase". As the particular disease progresses, you may start to feel fatigue, have a headache, lower backache, skin blemishes, or other symptoms like hormonal imbalances, constipation, or irritable bowel. This is considered the "Sub-Acute Phase". These are all the signs of the beginning of "poor health". If you take a proactive approach at this point, these problems are generally reversible.
When your doctor tells you that you have asthma, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, obesity, or worse... some type of tumor...you are in stage three of the disease process known as the "Chronic Phase". This can also be evidenced by other health issues such as, arthritis, weak sexual impulses, endometriosis, or infertility.
The final state of the disease process known as "Extreme Chemical Deficiency Degeneraton", is characterized by problems such heart disease, stroke, diabetes, gall bladder disease, kidney disease, cancer, lymphatic & cellular dysfunction to name just a few. Don't wait until you reach stage 3 or 4 before you become proactive and change your lifestyle. Help is still available. The answer lies by feeding your cells with proper nutrition.
How do our cells die? When we take too much acid forming (unhealthy) foods, it creates an acidic environment in our body that causes cells to die. When the cells die, our body becomes even more acidic and it creates a perfect environment for bacteria and disease processes to become active and spread. We become sick, then often we go see the doctor who prescribes more acid-forming drugs. These drugs will create other negative side effects due to our bodies already acidic state. I often say that when you go see your doctor, he or she gives you a "poison to treat a poison". That being said, as a retired medical professional, I am a firm believer in all forms of medicine. However, if we do everything proactively from a proper nutritional and exercise perspective to prevent disease, and this is not effective then other more conventional approaches are necessary. If we choose not to break the acidic environment by cutting out the harmful foods as much as possible and feeding our cells with the proper nutrients, the cycle will continue to spin until our bodies breakdown and succumb to degenerative disease.
Our 100 trillion cells basically need only four very important factors to stay healthy and happy. If we take the trouble to adhere to these four factors, we can be sure that our happy cells will keep us energetic and generally healthy. In my next post, we will get "back to basics" and discuss what those "four important factors" encompass...
